Trekking Vietnam Mai Chau in July

July may not be an ideal month for trekking in Mai Chau since July falls into mid-summer when the temperature is quite hot, at about  31 degree C day time. It is possible that the temperature goes up to 35 and 38 degree C outside. The temperature can be lower at night, about 24 degree C. The sky is clear with about 6 hours sunshine per day. The rain gets shower more than in June. It is quite humid and uncomfortable. Only day tours and short treks are recommended to those travelling to Mai Chau in July.

Mai Chau is located in Hoa Binh province, approximately 135 km from Hanoi and 60 km from Hoa Binh. Mai Chau is the name of a district of Hoa Binh province where are located the two villages Lac and Poom Coong are inhabited by the White Thai people. For most of travelers and tourists travelling to Mai Chau is to coming to Lac and Poom Coong villages.

From Hanoi you can hire a car and travel to Mai Chau. The road transfer takes about 3.5 – 4 hours. Those who are on budget can buy a bus ticket at My Dinh station. There are two daily departures from  Dinh bus station. You can also take the Son La and Moc Chau public bus that take you through Mai Chau as well. Renting a motorbike is also a good choice for many active adventure travelers.

Mai Chau offers a wide selection of trekking tours ranging from easy, short walking day tours to multi-day challenging trekking tours. Most of Mai Chau treks start in either Lac or Poom Coong village. You travel through different Thai hamlets, rice fields, hillsides before taking another hiking trail to get back to Mai Chau again where you will be picked up by your vehicle and transferred back to Hanoi. Those who are more adventurous may prefer more active and longer treks getting off of the car in the national road #6, from there they begin their trek hiking through H’mong and Dzao village until they reach Mai Chau where they are picked up again and transferred to back to Hanoi.

There are also some other extension tours which can be combined with Mai Chau trekking tours including Pu Luong Nature Reserve trekking tours, Tam Coc river boat trips, Tam Coc countryside cycle, Pu Luong Nature Reserve trekking tours, Cuc Phuong National Park trekking, birding tours…These optional tours may be ideal for active, adventure travelers seeking a multi-activity holidays in Vietnam.

Some people say that Mai Chau is a popular travel destination and that Mai Chau may be crowed and this cannot be the place for those who look for an off-the-beaten path destination. In fact there are many Vietnamese tourists visiting Mai Chau, especially students and young people, those who love outdoor, adventure travel.

The domestic travel season begins in June and ends up around late August. During this period there will be many Vietnamese people going on holiday. While most of them go to the beach, some still travel to the mountainous area seeking the fresh air of the nature. Mai Chau is sometimes crowded at weekend.

If you already plan your Mai Chau trekking tour in July, we recommend a day tour, an overnight trip to Mai Chau. These short trips also offer you the opportunity to do some hour walking through local Thai hamlets, rice fields. If you do the overnight trek, you have the opportunity to spend a night at home. This type of accommodation is truly simple and basic but offers the real life experience. Try to book your Mai Chau trip in week days if possible.
